Table Rock Mountain in Linville Gorge

Updated: Sep 12, 2022

The Linville Gorge Wilderness area in the Pisgah National Forest is one of my favorite places to go hiking when exploring Appalachia. There are several great trails here for day hike or a camping trip, and the views will make you feel like reciting poetry on top of the mountain like some nature-y hipster.  Difficulty: Moderate Length: 0.6 miles one-way Why It's Cool: The Linville Gorge is unbelievably beautiful! As you can probably tell by the lovely mountain laurels that are in some of these photos, this little excursion happened back in the spring. If you can go in the spring to see these beauties in bloom, you should!

The trailhead for this hike is easy to find, and if you're here on a weekend it's probably going to be crowded. Those humans love their mountain views. Try to get here early for a little more solitude.

There's a fun gravel road that you'll drive on to get to the trailhead, so get ready to unleash your inner yee-haw! (But also, please drive carefully. Do not let the yee-haw overtake you. It is powerful.) This photogenic spot is incredible, and once you hike to the top of Table Rock in Linville Gorge you'll see why it's such a popular spot. This one is great for a quick workout and a ton of eye candy.

This place is special, y'all. It's stunning! Remember to practice Leave No Trace principles when exploring the outdoors. Take only pictures, and leave only footprints. Happy wandering, y'all!
